Working with pretty little Dandelion ~ Spells

The dandelion is masculine in action and associated with the planet Jupiter and the element of air. A tea of the flowers and leaves may be drunk to increase psychic ability, while pouring boiling water over a bowlful of roots will aid in calling spirits. Dandelion is a plant of Hecate and is often associated with the underworld and necromancy.

Loved by bees, Dandelion is considered a plant of the Otherworld, with bees sometimes acting as psychopomps in old folklore. Dandelion is also associated with the air element explaining its use in aiding in communication with the dead and increasing psychic ability. Drink an infusion of the dried and roasted roots to enhance your psychic abilities before performing divination or summoning spirits of the dead. The steam from tea is believed to help call spirit entities. Roots, leaves, and flowers can be used in sachets or dream pillows for psychic dreaming and wishes. The flowers can be sewn into small red flannel bag and worn around the neck for wishes.

Culpepper writes that Dandelion has an “opening and cleansing quality… ”. This pretty little plant can be used in forms of sympathetic magic, meaning this weed is excellent for travelling between realms and connecting with the spirits that reside.

Dandelions have often appeared in traditional pagan rituals. The pretty blossoms and bright green leaves accent altars for spring and summer celebrations, especially the Vernal Equinox, Beltane, and Litha. They can be woven into garlands, wreaths, and ropes to be draped across altars. Towards autumn, collect the moon-like orbs to dress your altar for Lammas, Mabon, or Samhain.

Dandelion is also said to aid the development of psychic gifts and to grant wishes. Children blow the little DANDELION puff-balls when making wishes. Dried Dandelion root, when chopped up, brewed into tea, and drunk three times a week, is alleged to help one dream truth and to enhance the gift of Second Sight.

Return To Me Spell

You’ll need:
2 Dandelions with long stems 2 Pieces of string/thread/ribbon of the appropriate color 2 Feathers (preferably ones you have found)

When the sun is shining high in the sky repeat the following incantation, adjusting or removing lines that do not apply to your situation. This incantation is just a suggestion, as I feel all spells are stronger when re-written with your own words.

**This is not my incantation…it was given to me by a friend who read it somewhere else….

Dandelion, yellow and bright You and I will never fight Dandelion, strong and sweet Speak with honey when we meet Dandelion, tall and taking root You have forgotten about our dispute Dandelion, strongly rooted and growing The love in your heart is finally showing There’s Growth in your heart We will have a new start You will return to me This is my will, so will it be

Tie a loose knot in the stems with each line. Hold the end and using the string/ribbon/thread tie it at the top under the flowers and at the end of the stems so that it doesn’t fall apart.
Dig a shallow hole about the length flowers, and bury them with the flower heads peeking out of the hole.

To represent the flight of your spell, push the ends of the two feathers in the ground next to your offering. While doing this, it would be a good idea to chant something along the lines of “Take flight, and return to me.”
